SEATTLE, WA. – Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell signed an executive order on Monday to try to reduce drug use downtown, including the establishment of a new overdose response unit and a pilot program providing gift cards to individuals who accept treatment. The move comes as city officials report a 72% increase in overdose deaths in Seattle from 2021 to 2022, with methamphetamines and fentanyl responsible for the majority of those deaths.
