The CW Cancels Stargirl, Series Finale Airs in December
Following circulating rumors, The CW officially cancels Stargirl after three seasons.
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the series finale of Stargirl is scheduled to air on Dec. 7. The network is currently in the process of streamlining its collection of scripted originals, following the networks acquisition by Nexstar.
In a statement, creator Geoff Johns said, "Stargirl has always held a special place in my heart for many reasons… With all the brewing changes at the network, we were aware this was possibly the last season, so we wrote with that in mind and have delivered what I believe to be the best season of Stargirl yet, with complete creative closure. The cast and crew are extraordinary, and I’d like to thank them for helping me bring this series to life."

The deal for The CW was completed in August. Nexstar currently owns 75 percent of network stakes, while Warner Bros. Discovery and Paramount continue to own 12.5 percent each. At the time, Nexstar CEO Perry Sook stated, "We plan to apply the same strict financial standards to operating The CW as we apply to our other businesses."
The CW's Cancelations
While Stargirl did not exist within the Arrowverse, it follows a multitude of the franchise's cancellations, which included DC's Legends of Tomorrow, Batwoman and, most recently, The Flash, which will conclude after Season 9. The CW CEO Mark Pedowitz previously assured, "[We're] staying in the superhero business… We are staying working with Greg Berlanti, who has masterminded creatively The CW DC Universe." He did add, "So we're not as robust as we were in the past, but still very much there. We started with one — this was Arrow 10 years ago — we have now moved to create a whole bunch of superheroes. And we're proud of it and we plan to stay in that business."
The rumors concerning Stargirl circulated for at least a month. It was enough to push the show's fanbase to launch the #RenewStargirl campaign, demanding The CW renew the series early in order to ensure it stays on the air. This was in response to the CW's change in ownership. Stargirl was one of only three superhero shows remaining with the network, the other two being Superman & Lois and the upcoming Gotham Knights.
Stargirl debuts new episodes Wednesdays at 8 pm ET on The CW and the next day on The CW app.
