10 Worst Werewolves In Movies

Werewolves are a popular type of supernatural beasts because their forms can vary so much. A werewolf is a person cursed to change into a wolf. Typically, a werewolf is tied to the full moon, a time filled with superstition and supposedly supernatural power, for its transformations.

However, the degree of transformation can vary from an extremely hairy man to some wolf-man hybrid creature or an actual wolf. Filmmakers have tried to capture this iconic monster on the big screen for decades. Perhaps the most iconic look came from the 1941 film The Wolf Man, and many have tried to improve on this, but several have fallen short.

10/10 That Werewolf Looks Sickly

The Harry Potter franchise has a huge following, and it was made even bigger with the release of the films. Harry came in contact with, or battled, all kinds of mythical creatures and magic users. This even includes classic creatures from mythology, like the werewolf.

The first werewolf that Harry encountered was Professor Lupin. Having forgotten to take the potion to stop the transformation, Lupin changed under the full moon. However, he looked more like an oversized rat or emaciated dog with mange than a werewolf.

9/10 This Werewolf Is More Man Than Animal

Wolf was a romantic horror film from 1994 with an all-star cast including Jack Nicholson, Michelle Pfeiffer, and several others. Nicholson's character, Will, is bitten by a wolf, and his life begins to deteriorate around him. He becomes rivals with his protégé, and things come to a fatal end.

Will's bite from the wolf caused him to transform into a werewolf. Unfortunately, the transformation into a werewolf in Wolf isn't anything special to look at. The werewolf has golden eyes, sharper teeth, longer nails, and more hair, but otherwise looks very human.

8/10 These Werewolves Put Emphasis On "Wolf"

Perhaps the most successful young adult romantic horror of the past couple of decades, the Twilight saga introduced fans to some of the most lackluster werewolves to date. Admittedly the members of the Quileute tribe in Twilight were not actually werewolves but shape-shifters.

These shape-shifters would transform into giant wolves, so the confusion is understandable. While the giant CGI wolves are impressive, an actual werewolf, which technically exists in Twilight, had the opportunity to be cooler than a super-sized wolf.

7/10 Dogman Is Barely There

Dogman, released in 2012, is a difficult movie to consider among werewolf films. The is sub-par in every way, from terrible acting, lackluster editing, and a disappointing villain. The film is about a Dogman, which is basically a creature stuck in werewolf form.

So, it's not exactly a werewolf, but the Dogman isn't exactly in the movie either. The Dogman has nearly zero screen time, with just a flash of its mouth or seeing its arm scratch someone. What we see looks like a cheap costume; even the baby Dogmen were just husky puppies.

6/10 Red Hunts Some Ugly Beasts

Red: Werewolf Hunter follows Virginia, a descendant of Little Red Riding Hood, and her family of werewolf hunters. The story and acting are a bit cheesy, but for a SyFy original movie, it isn't too bad, and had the film had more funding, the werewolves could've been great.

Unfortunately, Red: Werewolf Hunter was a made-for-TV movie, so it didn't have a great budget. As a result, the werewolves suffered from terrible CGI. This caused some seriously ugly werewolves that look like disfigured characters from Cats.

5/10 Silver Bullet's Werewolf Looks Like Man's Best Friend

Based on a novella by Stephen King, Silver Bullet is considered a classic among fans of werewolf films. The film's story is that a small town is devastated by several unsolved murders. Eventually, it is discovered that a werewolf is to blame, and it is the town's reverend.

Despite the film's limitations on effects, due to coming out in 1985, it is a fantastic movie. Regrettably, this greatness was not extended to the werewolf. Instead, what fans got in Silver Bullet just looked like a man in a dog costume.

4/10 These Filmmakers Need To Brush Up On Their Cryptids

Meant to play off the title An American Werewolf in London, the 2005 horror film Mexican Werewolf in Texas was a flop. The film was weak all around, and currently only has a 17% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, the worst part was the film's "werewolf."

The term "werewolf" is used lightly in this instance because the Mexican werewolf is actually a Chupacabra. Not only is the monster not actually a werewolf, but it is also one of the ugliest animals to come to film. The Chupacabra looks more alien than a cryptid animal.

3/10 Bad Moon Caused A Bad Transformation

In Bad Moon, Ted, one of the main characters, and his girlfriend are attacked by a creature, and Ted barely survives. Ted then moves closer to his sister to recuperate and becomes a major threat once he begins to transform.

The werewolf's final form in Bad Moon looks pretty good, but his mid-transformation forms are terrible. Ted stops partway through changing, to monologue, looking like a cheap Halloween costume, not to mention his shrinking and growing limbs throughout the change.

2/10 Cursed's Villain Has A Cursed Appearance

Fans had high hopes for the horror comedy Cursed, which came out in 2005, because it was directed by horror giant Wes Craven. The movie follows an orphaned brother and sister who are attacked and cursed by a werewolf who is jealous of the sister.

Since the movie is a comedy, it is expected to have campy bits, but fans expected a little more out of a Craven film. The werewolf is decent except for its ears; something about them erases its scare factor. The ears are almost Yoda-like in shape. Also, the werewolf flips the bird, so how scary can it be?

1/10 Dark Shadows Can't Do Werewolves

Dark Shadows gave fans a selection of supernatural entities for their viewing pleasure, with a witch, a vampire, and even a werewolf. While the main story focuses on the risen vampire, Barnabas Collins, his living teenage female descendant, Carolyn, was revealed to be a werewolf.

There was so much potential in Carolyn's transformed look, which can be seen in her wolf-like limbs. However, the ball was dropped with her face. Instead of growing a snout or wolf ears, she looks like she glued some hair to her face and put in some contacts.
