Iruma-kun Season 3, Episode 3 Goes Plus Ultra With the Abnormal Class

The following contains spoilers for Season 3, Episode 3 of Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun, "Iruma's True Feelings," now streaming on Crunchyroll.

Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun is a shonen isekai anime returning for Season 3 in the Fall 2022 lineup, though recent episodes have felt more like a training sequence from My Hero Academia. Protagonist Iruma Suzuki is a student at a demonic school where combat is a matter of course, and there's the Harvest Festival coming up as well.

This means that Naberius Kalego's abnormal class — or the misfit class — must go Plus Ultra and realize their true potential before the deadly Harvest Festival begins. Iruma and his misfit classmates rose to the occasion during Season 2's epic Walter Park battle; now in Season 3, all the abnormal students must break the barriers in their minds to channel that heroic power once again.

The Abnormal Class Struggles With Their New Training – But They're Growing

Season 3, Episode 3 of Iruma-kun picks up where the last episode left off, with the abnormal class's students still struggling with the brutal, unique training from their new teachers. Caim Kamui and Kerori must forge special bonds with noxious demon beasts; Sabnock Sabro and Asmodeus Alice must fight Balam in mortal combat, while Clara and Elizabetta struggle to become true seductress demons. All these abnormal students complain throughout their training, convinced it's both unfair and too painful — but the pain is only in their minds, and the teachers know their students can do better.

The abnormal students come to realize this for themselves over the course of Episode 3. The real obstacle is in their minds, and one by one, they push their creative thinking to the next level. Only with the right strategies and sufficient grit can students like Goemon, Jazz and Kerori overcome these challenges and turn them on their heads.

The teachers watch with pride and pleasant surprise as the abnormal students finally outwit them, such as Garp Goemon treating flowing water like his own element, wind. Similarly, Valac Clara uses her non-sexy innocence to her advantage and performs charming sneak attacks, making her an effective succubus after all. All these students have the magical power and toughness to overcome these challenges, but they need to realize it first.

Iruma-kun Season 3 Is Showing the Students Are No Longer Simple Misfits

Episode 3's breakthroughs help reinforce the anime's "school life" theme. While Welcome to Demon School! is an isekai at its core, this is not a cartoony rehash of shows like Reincarnated as a Slime or Re:Zero. True to its title, Iruma-kun is all about learning, personal growth, and the value of a good teacher who understands their students' strengths and weaknesses. In that sense, it's much more like My Hero Academia.

The previous two seasons of Iruma-kun did have some inspiring scenes where Babyls' students came together to overcome challenges and learned new things along the way, but Season 3 is taking it to the next level. No longer are Iruma and his classmates just a bunch of misfit students who provide comic relief and slice-of-life Netherworld antics. They have finally been acknowledged as students who are worth investing in, and their teachers take full advantage of that.

The students might complain in Episodes 2 and 3, but this intense pressure to succeed is clear evidence of the teachers' faith in them. The abnormal class should feel proud to be worthy of strenuous training like this, and will no doubt be grateful for the immense payoff. They're about to prove why they're worthy of the Royal One classroom when Iruma-kun continues.
