Is Marvel Snap’s Symbiote Invasion Battle Pass Worth the Cost?

Marvel and Second Dinner's newest digital card collecting game, Marvel Snap, is being widely praised for how it handles monetization and the way players obtain cards. Currently, there is no way to purchase cards — instead, players earn cards by climbing a progression ladder and upgrading cards the more they play. This progression system has eliminated the need for card purchases.

Second Dinner has also confirmed that it is doubling down on what can be purchased now rather than returning to the predatory monetization scheme created during its Nexus Event. These monetization methods include gold for in-game purchases like card variants and credits used to upgrade cards. It also includes the monthly season pass, which is a good deal if players put forth the time and effort into Marvel SNAP.

Marvel Snap's Symbiote Invasion Season Pass Details

In Marvel SNAP, each season pass lasts a month and costs $9.99. After it ends, a new season begins with a brand-new card, variants, and theme. So far, beta players are experiencing the fifth season pass, but with the worldwide release, Season 5 will be many newcomers' first season. This season's theme is Symbiote Invasion, and it revolves around Carnage, Spider-Woman, and a fan-favorite character: Miles Morales.

Marvel SNAP Season Pass Unlocks

Each season pass is unique and includes a never-before-released card that's added to the player's collection. A brand-new card alone can entice players to purchase the season pass right away, as some see it as an opportunity to play new decks. This season, Miles Morales: Spider-Man is that card. His ability revolves around the move archetype and reads: "if a card was moved last turn, this costs one."

A 5-power card costing 1-energy is a pretty powerful ability and is not exclusive to the player's cards. If the player's opponent moves their cards, Miles' will cost one for the player. He also synergizes well with Nightcrawler and Polaris. And if players end up skipping out on the season pass, do not worry — the season-exclusive card will become available in the final collection pool of cards after the next two seasons (so after two months).

This season pass also contains four random variants and three exclusive variants for Miles Morales: Spider-Man, Carnage, and Spider-Woman. To put it into perspective, one variant card can cost a player $9.99 on its own, so the season pass offers a $70 value in variants alone. 1,000 gold can also be obtained in the season pass, which can be used to purchase credits and more variants. 1,000 gold has a value of about $15, but unfortunately, gold cannot be used to purchase future season passes.

The least exciting items in the season pass are three new avatars, a Spider-Man card back, and plenty of credits and boosters to help upgrade more cards to progress in the card collection pool. These act more like fillers in between all the more exciting collectibles, but the season pass continues beyond there. After players have collected everything past level 50, there will be season caches that seem to go on forever. In these caches, players will have the random opportunity to get a card variant, gold, credits, and boosters, with the card variant being the rarest item in the cache.

Before purchasing a season pass for any game, gamers should ask whether it's worth the investment. Season passes for games like Fortnite and Apex Legends succeed because players can return their investment by completing the pass and earning back what they spent on in-game credits. This is how most players determine if a season pass is worth purchasing. Marvel SNAP is no different, and the Symbiote Invasion Battle Pass and future battle passes are well worth the investment for dedicated players.
