Boruto’s Pint-Sized Villain Just Defeated Konoha’s Most Powerful Heroes

The following contains spoilers for Chapter 74 of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, "Baptism By Fire," by Masashi Kishimoto, Mikio Ikemoto, Mari Morimoto and Snir Aharon, now available in English from Viz Media.

In the Boruto franchise, it's safe to say the Hokage's son and Kawaki have been positioned as the most powerful entities meant to keep Konoha safe. Naruto lost Kurama and is now severely-depowered, while Sasuke is in the same boat having lost his Rinnegan. Given that Boruto and Kawaki have fully become Ōtsutsuki in terms of their DNA, they're simply walking, talking weapons of mass destruction.

Thankfully, they're in control of their bodies — that is, until Momoshiki tries to pilot Boruto again. That said, the Hidden Leaf wants to protect its biggest assets, although Boruto Chapter 74 proves they've still got some work to do. It comes as a result of the manga's pint-sized villain, Daemon, battering them in their very first meeting.

CBR VIDEO OF THE DAY

Boruto's Daemon Arrives in Destructive Style

Eida and Daemon arrive in Konoha, which leads to her flying off to the loft they're staying at. Boruto and Kawaki are tasked with being housemates and keeping watch over them, but Daemon immediately jumps Boruto. Part of it is playful as he does want a brother, but part is down to ego and Daemon flexing his might.

He wants to prove to the guys he's an alpha, which results in Kawaki jumping into the fray, too. However, Daemon uses his super-speed and reflecting power, throwing the guys' techniques back at them without even blinking an eye. It culminates in him smashing the gents into the ground without breaking a sweat, all while laughing as he kicks major butt.

Daemon Foreshadows Major Problems in Boruto

Code already had issues fighting Daemon, but he realized that once the kid's palms are in contact, he could generate the reflective counter-measure, even if he's not looking at the enemy. It's a brilliant counter-measure and shield, but unless Amado spills this secret, no one else knows the truth.

Eida won't say, making Daemon the ultimate bodyguard. In addition, should Amado betray Konoha, he now has Eida and Daemon to use as potential assets. She's got her mind-control abilities and precognitive powers, so when coupling that with Daemon being able to take down the big guns in mere seconds, trouble is brewing. Simply put, this is Kara's legacy and a problem Shikamaru foresaw, which is why he kept warning Naruto that they should have used excessive force in the past.

Ultimately, this licking will inspire Boruto and Kawaki to level up. They've got godlike talents, but their rival siblings do too, as they were engineered and then decommissioned in Isshiki's army. It'll come down to the mental game — tactics and strategy — which is where Naruto and Sasuke will come in handy. But as it stands, Konoha currently has no physical response for these teens in Eida and Code, which means they have to toe the line and keep them pacified as allies.
