Artgerm Imbues One Piece’s Luffy With 5th Gear Power in Stunning New Art

A One Piece fan artist recently created stunning artwork of 5th Gear Luffy.

The digital artist and designer Stanley "Artgerm" Lau shared the art on his Twitter page. The piece showcases Luffy in what he describes as his "freest" transformative state, tapping into the full potential of his Gum Gum Fruit to change into a Sun God called Nika. This piece is one of Artgerm's entries for #arttrober2022, a challenge that has fan artists create one piece of artwork every day for the entire month of October. The prompt list for the challenge includes popular comic book, anime and video game characters. For #arttrober2022, Artgerm also created artwork of several other famous anime characters, including Lucy from Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, Gym Leader Elesa from Pokémon, and Madoka Kaname from Puella Magi Madoka Magica.

CBR VIDEO OF THE DAY

The One Piece franchise has had an eventful year thus far. Eiichiro Oda is currently working on the final saga of the One Piece manga and has stated in interviews that he wants to complete the series in the next three years. In August, the franchise also saw the Japanese debut of One Piece Film: Red, which grossed more than 17 billion yen (over $114 million at the time of writing.) As of Oct. 23, the movie is the ninth-highest-grossing film in the country's history, overtaking the number 10 spot previously held by Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.

One Piece Film: Red Is a Massive Hit

One Piece Film: Red revolves around a famous diva named Uta who desires to bring peace and happiness to the world with her songs. When Luffy and the other Straw Hat Pirates journey to Elegia to see her live in concert, they realize that she is also the daughter of Red-Haired Shanks, the infamous pirate captain that inspired Luffy as a child. Since the film's release, Uta became an iconic character in her own right and is at the center of much of the film's advertising. Recently, a special Halloween version of Uta took over the digital signage at Shibuya Station's Den en Toshi line. The One Piece Online store also gave away postcards of Halloween Uta with purchases made between Oct. 29 and Oct. 31.

One Piece Film: Red is rapidly approaching its Western debut. The movie hits theaters in North America on Nov. 4, a day after its Nov. 3 debut in New Zealand and Australia. Those who want to see more of Artgerm's work can view it on his Twitter page.
