Wolverine’s Body Is Being Cut Up and Sold For Parts

The following article contains spoilers for Wolverine #26, on sale now from Marvel Comics.

Wolverine finds himself in an unpleasant situation when a villain known as the Merchant starts cutting off parts of his body and then auctions them off to the highest bidder in the latest issue of the X-Men character's solo series.

Wolverine #26 comes from writer Benjamin Percy, artist Juan José Ryp, color artist Frank D'Aramata and letterer VC's Cory Petit. Near the end of the issue, Wolverine breaks into Washington D.C.'s Smithsonian Castle alongside Jeff Bannister, a retired C.I.A. agent first introduced in 2020's Wolverine #1 (by Percy, Adam Kubert, Frank Martin and Petit), to investigate the Legacy House, an underground criminal organization the hero previously stumbled upon in Wolverine #9 (by Percy, Jubert, Martin and Petiti).

Upon the investigation, Wolverine and Jeff are apprehended by a woman who takes off a disguise and revealed themselves to be the Merchant, the man who collects and sells rare pieces of memorabilia from across the Marvel Universe within the Legacy House. When bumping into the Merchant for the first time in Wolverine #9, the hero — who was disguising himself as Patch, at the time — was shocked to see his own severed arm and extended Adamantium claws being sold by the villain.

A Familiar X-Men Face Makes an Offer to Kill Wolverine

Putting Wolverine in Adamantium handcuffs, the Merchant welcomes in a crowd of potential buyers. He promptly shoots Wolverine in the head with the revolver he's holding, takes out a knife, digs out the bullet and sells it to the crowd at a starting bid of $10,000. The bullet is followed by a severed ear, eye and more. Finally, someone stands up and proposes a different kind of bid: they want to be the one to kill Wolverine. The last page of the issue reveals this individual to be none other than Beast/Hank McCoy, though his reasoning remains unknown at this time.

The story continues in Wolverine #27, which releases Nov. 9. The synopsis reads, "ALL-NEW, ALL-SAVAGE WOLVERINE! WOLVERINE’s been sold out. BANNISTER’s been duped. And when the dust settles, there’s something…different about Logan. Wolverine’s saga in the Krakoan era takes a savage turn with a decision—and a betrayal—that changes everything!"

Wolverine #26 features cover art by Leinil Francis Yu and Romulo Fajardo Jr. and variant cover art by NetEase Games, Kev Walker and Java Tartaglia. The issue is on sale now from Marvel.
