Gamers Are Having a Hard Time Finding Metroid Prime Remastered Physical Copies

Gamers looking to buy physical copies of Metroid Prime Remastered have been having difficulty finding the game at retailers. Metroid Prime Remastered was one of the biggest highlights of the recent Nintendo Direct with its surprise digital release on Nintendo Switch plus the reveal that it would be getting a physical release.

Metroid Prime was one of the GameCube's defining titles and its legacy stayed strong over 20 years later. Fans of the series were excited when the game was announced to be remastered for Nintendo Switch in both digital and physical versions, the former of which was shadow-dropped. The physical version of Metroid Prime Remastered was announced to be releasing on February 22 in North America. Physical pre-orders for Metroid Prime Remastered sold out quickly which made things difficult for those who prefer to own boxed copies of their games.

This release day was unfortunately dampened as gamers ran to local and online retailers today only to be met with shelves and pages telling them it was out of stock. Some of those who secured pre-orders the day of the announcement of Metroid Prime Remastered were not safe from these supply issues either, as some pre-orders have been delayed by several weeks. Although the digital version of the game has been available since February 8, many waited to get the game physically but may end up having to wait longer due to these supply issues.

Metroid Prime Remastered was available on Nintendo's website at one point but is sold out at the time of writing. The game has become popular with scalpers who have started trying to sell the game at exorbitant prices. A similar situation happened with other scarce Nintendo products such as amiibo, special edition versions of the Nintendo Switch, the NES and SNES Classic Editions, and perhaps most notoriously, Super Mario 3D All-Stars which was listed on eBay for thousands of dollars mere days after being delisted on the eShop.

Although Nintendo products being hard to find is nothing new, this scarcity of Metroid Prime Remastered is likely to be disappointing for fans. It is unclear how long it will take for Metroid Prime Remastered to be restocked, but with rumors of Metroid Prime 2 and 3 coming to Switch, Nintendo will hopefully have enough physical copies of those titles ready on launch.

Metroid Prime Remastered is available now on Nintendo Switch.
