13 "What You Call Faith Is Nothing More Than A Child Crying Out For Love.” (Silent Hill 3)
Vincent Smith
While Vincent Smith and Claudia Wolf are both members of the Order, they have different interpretations of what faith is. This causes them to argue about which viewpoint is correct, leading to Vincent saying this quote, while reprimanding Claudia for the way she goes about her faith.
As Claudia is unable to have a positive relationship with her father, who is cruel to her, she seeks this love from other outlets. She attempts to birth the cult’s god, despite the risk, in order to feel a sense of belonging. Rather than having a selfless belief in her faith, Claudia’s religion is steeped in her own desires. This leads to her wanting to birth the cult’s god for personal gain. Vincent recognizes Claudia’s misplaced belief, saying that her need to be loved is not the same as having true faith.
