Elden Ring: Most Ridiculous Hats And Helmets, Ranked

The Soulsborne series has always taken itself pretty seriously. From the melancholy of Dark Souls, to the creepy cosmic horror of Bloodborne, it's all pretty dark. But they always embrace a little bit of the silly side, and in the case of Elden Ring, this comes in the way of absolutely ridiculous hats and helmets. There are a number of somewhat silly outfits in Elden Ring, but it is mainly the headpieces that convey the most of this comical undertone.

A good number of them also provide stat bonuses, though some also decrease another stat in return. Despite the downsides, many are too funny or weird to pass up. Here are some of the most ridiculous hats in Elden Ring.

Updated July 7, 2022 by David Herbold: Elden Ring has been out for a while now, and players are still exploring the Lands Between and discovering new secrets. While there have been no new hats added to the game since launch, there are a few more that could easily be considered some of the weirdest hats in a Souls game. So, here they are for your enjoyment.

THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY

16 Black Wolf Mask

Blaidd is a prominent NPC throughout Elden Ring's main story, especially if you decide to side with Ranni and complete her quest line. You follow this intimidating, but actually quite kind, fellow from place to place, in the hope that you can achieve the goals of your four-armed queen.

The first thing that goes through many Souls veterans' heads when they see an NPC like Blaidd, with some cool looking armor, is to wonder if they can wear it. Not only can you get his armor, you can also find a wolven mask outside of Seluvis's Rise. Pretty macabre.

15 Radiant Gold Mask

Goldmask is another intriguing NPC that pulls you into the world of Elden Ring. Though he doesn't talk, the interesting thing about him is his appearance, and the implications of his ending that you can only get to after following his entire quest.

The mask he wears — aptly named the Radiant Gold Mask — allows you to cosplay as everyone's favorite sun-faced man. In addition to looking cool, or silly depending on your interpretation, the mask buffs Golden Order Incantations.

14 Silver Tear Mask

The Silver Tears, found in the underground areas of Elden Ring, usually shapeshift into random NPCs, enemies, or even a clone of your character. But some remain gray balls that can either shoot spears or electrocute you from afar.

The Silver Tear Mask allows you to wear a mask fashioned from one of their corpses, for some reason — which is ironic, as you are cosplaying as a copy enemy. The mask also adds an eight-point stat buff to Arcane, at the cost of five percent less damage output.

13 Pumpkin Helm

The Mad Pumpkin Head enemies found throughout the Lands Between are interesting encounters, to say the least. Unlike many enemies, where you attack them actually matters. If you hit them in their armored head, the foe will take significantly less damage.

This Pumpkin Helm drops from those enemies, and actually provides a similar buff, along with allowing you to dress like them. The helm reduces ranged headshot damage, as well as damage from impacts. It's very heavy.

12 Octopus Head

The Octopus Head is dropped from the Land Octopus enemies, which is not particularly surprising. This hat provides a decent amount of armor for its weight, and considering the fact that it is an octopus you are wearing on your head.

It has an extremely low 0.5% drop rate, but is arguably worth the effort to retrieve based on the silly-factor alone. This is heightened even further through the jiggle physics embedded in the limbs of the hat.

11 Scarab Hats

There are five Scarab Hats that can be located in Elden Ring, each of which both gives a buff and increases damage taken. These Scarabs generally give a very slight buff, but if you account for the massive range of other gear you can use to buff yourself in Elden Ring, this small increase can quickly become overpowered.

The Crimson Tear gives more healing from flasks, the Cerulean Tear gives more FP from flasks, and the Glintstone reduces FP cost of sorceries. Incantation does what it says in the tin and reduces the FP cost of incantations, while the Ash-of-War reduces the FP cost of weapon skills and Ashes of War.

10 Mushroom Head

The Mushroom Head is pretty self-explanatory in terms of lore implications. The helmet is implied to have grown from the very annoying Scarlet Rot that covers a good chunk of the Caelid region of the map. Of all the hats included in this list, this one is certainly one of them that is popular in the meme side of Fashion Souls.

Whereas most players would be unlikely to find any use for the helmet due to its very low defense, anyone looking to make a funny-looking character will find this helmet a good addition to their potentially bizarre and strange weapon. The helmet can be complemented by the rest of the Mushroom set which is composed of matching Body, Arms, and Leg pieces of armor. This set can be located in Seethewater Cave, which is part of the Mt. Gelmir portion of the map.

9 Envoy Crown

When Dark Souls was first released, people took to a certain NPC and began referring to him as the Onion Knight. Though he does not return in Elden Ring, the concept of onion-themed armor certainly does with the Envoy Crown. The helmet resembles a sultan's turban if it was scaled up by 200 percent. Like a majority of the weird helmets in the game, this one does not provide much defense nor poise.

One thing it does offer, however, is a damage buff to bubble-based skills on weapons. The enemies that wear this item also wield horn items that the player can loot if they are lucky, and these horns each have a skill that blows bubbles at their foes. It certainly is only useful in rare circumstances. The Crown can be found Southeast of the Haligtree Canopy site of grace.

8 Queen's Crescent Crown

Potentially the second big boss fight in Elden Ring is against Renalla, Queen of the Full Moon after finishing the Raya Lucaria Academy area. This is the funny-looking tall hat that she wears during the fight, but it certainly makes up for its silly appearance with the buff that is applied to the character when worn. While wearing the Crown, players receive three extra points for their Intelligence stat.

This could potentially allow you to use spells that are a few too levels away, or on the other hand, could just be an awesome cosplay piece for imitating Renalla. Like many of the shardbearer bosses, you can purchase her armor from Enia in the Roundtable hold after defeating her.

7 Godskin Apostle Hood

One of the more difficult repeated bosses in Elden Ring, the Godskin Apostle seems to be clothed in human skin and, after defeating the boss at the bottom of the Caelid Divine Tower, you too can clothe yourself in another's skin. The Godskin Apostle hood is similar to the other hats and crowns that are more unique in that it has pretty poor stats.

Unfortunately, the similarities end there, since the hood does not provide any benefits to your character beyond its incredible poise. It would seem logical for the armor set to buff the Black Flame spells that the Godskin bosses use, but sadly the set is only useful for looking like a serial killer.

6 Jar

The Jar hat is one of the simpler items in Elden Ring. There are basically zero lore implications here. Instead, there are friendship implications, as the Jar hat is given to the player by Iron Fist Alexander after following his questline all the way to the outskirts of Volcano Manor. There, Alexander will give you this wonderful helmet as a token of his appreciation for helping him earlier.

In traditional fashion for the more bizarre hats in Elden Ring, the Jar gives a special buff while worn. In this case, that buff is a damage increase for throwing pot items that you can craft using the various cracked pot items found throughout the Lands Between. This is one of the very few items that actually can directly increase the effectiveness of crating in Elden Ring, so it may be worth it to learn how to craft.

5 Albinauric Mask

Located in the Liurnia of the Lakes area are a number of strange enemies, from massive lobsters to the detestable revenants. But of these creatures, the Albinaurics are some of the strangest by far. They resemble gray aliens with their massive eyes and bald heads. And luckily for you, they are easily imitated since you can acquire a mask that lets you look just like one.

The Albinauric Mask gives you a four point buff to the Arcane stat, but a ten percent reduction to healing from the Flask of Crimson Tears. To find the mask, just go to Volcano Manor, near the Guest Hall site of grace, and explore around to find it.

4 Twinsage Glintstone Crown

Another group of enemies enemy found in the Liurnia region of Elden Ring are the Twinsage Sorcerers who wield powerful magic while wearing this strange headpiece. And as luck would have it, you can acquire one for yourself in the Raya Lucaria Academy near the Church of the Cuckoo site of grace.

The Twinsage Glintsone Crown gives the player an extra six points to Intelligence while worn, but also a nine percent decrease for both health and stamina. A potentially very powerful helm for sorcerers, the looks of this item combined with the buff to INT might outweigh the downsides for many.

3 Azur's Glintstone Crown

The literal brain of the Primeval Sorcerer Azur, Azur's Glintstone Crown is probably the hat you want if you want to look as mystical as possible. It makes you look tall, is made of crystal, and it even buffs the Comet Azur, Glintstone Cometshard, and Comet spells. What else could you ever want as a mage?

Well, there are some downsides as well. As recompense for the additional damage, the FP cost of those spells goes up. But in general, sorcery in Elden Ring is going to kill opponents very quickly, so that extra damage could make or break a fight. Either way, it is really cool looking and can be found as a part of Sorceress Sellen's Quest. Once you finish the quest, simply return to Azur for the set.

2 Mushroom Crown

The upgraded version of the Mushroom Head item, the Mushroom Crown is definitely fit for a king. Found in the Lake of Rot area underground, the Mushroom crown item resembles the Xanthous Crown item in past Souls games.

This is another cool hat that provides a buff and in this case, it gives you extra damage if someone near to you is affected with poison or rot. So this Crown would be perfect for anyone going for a poison-focused build, as it could potentially buff their damage in addition to looking fly.

1 Lusat's Glintstone Crown

After seeing Azur's Crown, it's hard to believe there is a better-looking mage hat – but Lusat's Glintstone Crown definitely makes that leap. This item is very similar to Azur's in that it is also supposedly his literal brain and skull, but also in that it increases the damage of spells associated with Lusat.

Unfortunately, the Crown also shares the same downside of higher FP cost, but the Eye of Sauron look is too cool to pass up. This is the hat for you if you want to cosplay an evil mage and really play the part too with Lusat's powerful magic.
