Silent Hill Ascension Live, Interactive Series Revealed for 2023

Konami continued to announce several new games in the Silent Hill franchise with its first live, interactive title.

The Silent Hill Transmission premiered a teaser trailer for the new Silent Hill Ascension, a live, interactive game for fans to participate in the story. The trailer showed text messages between individuals trying to save an unknown person. According to the developers, the aim is to create the familiar "communal fear" with friends watching horror films but in a live game. The title goes live in 2023.

CBR VIDEO OF THE DAY

It remains unclear in what format Silent Hill: Ascension will appear, as it's currently billed as a "massively interactive live event" that will premiere on multiple platforms. Several companies come together to make the title, including Konami, Genvid Entertainment, Behaviour Interactive, DJ2 Entertainment and J.J. Abrams's Bad Robot.

"We're thrilled to unveil this new MILE experience that will take place in the SILENT HILL franchise, where fans can influence this new world and its inhabitants as a community," said Motoi Okamoto, Producer at Konami Digital Entertainment. "With SILENT HILL: Ascension, audience members can work together to impact the story at every turn. We're excited to give fans the chance to shape SILENT HILL canon."

Everything Announced During the Silent Hill Transmission

Konami revealed several major updates to the Silent Hill series during its showcase today, surprising some fans despite a major YouTube leak earlier in the day that mentioned Ascension's title, among others. Other games include a remake of Silent Hill 2, one of the most beloved in the series, and two additional new titles: Silent Hill: Townfall and Silent Hill F. Details about the new games remain similarly scarce, with their trailers only serving to hint at some of the themes in the games. While the former's location remains challenging to pin down, Silent Hill F takes the series out of the United States and into rural Japan.

Outside of gaming, Konami also revealed a return to the silver screen with a new film. Return to Silent Hill serves as a sequel to the 2006 film Silent Hill, and sees director Christophe Gans return to helm the project. The film adapts Silent Hill 2, telling the story of James Sunderland as he tries to find his wife, Mary, in the mysterious town. Gans described the film as a "psychological horror" rather than a pure gore fest.

Silent Hill Ascension does not yet have a release date.
