Anna Faris Says Ivan Reitman Inappropriately Touched Her on My Super Ex-Girlfriend Set

Comedian and actor Anna Faris stated director Ivan Reitman inappropriately touched her on the set of My Super Ex-Girlfriend.

Per Deadline, speaking on her podcast Unqualified, Faris says that Reitman had harassed her while filming the 2006 romantic comedy. "One of my hardest film experiences was with Ivan Reitman," Faris said to her guest Lena Dunham. "I mean, the idea of attempting to make a comedy under this, like, reign of terror, he was a yeller. He would bring down somebody every day…and my first day, it was me." The actor goes on to say the director "slapped [her] ass" while filming a key My Super Ex-Girlfriend scene, prompting a confused and shocked response.

"I was doing a scene where I was on a ladder and I was supposed to be taking books off a shelf and he slapped my a– in front of the crew so hard. And all I could do was giggle," Faris said. "I remember looking around and I remember seeing the crew members being like, 'Wait, what are you going to do about that? That seemed weird.' And that’s how I dismissed it. I was like, 'Well, this isn’t a thing. Like, it’s not that big of a deal. Buck up, Faris. Like, just giggle.' But it made me feel small. He wouldn’t have done that to the lead male."

Faris continued on to say that Reitman openly stated that one of the reasons she was hired for My Super Ex-Girlfriend was because she had "great legs," going to say that this informed a large part of her self-perception in her early career. "I don’t think the male lead got hired because he had great legs. Therefore I felt like I’m hired because of these elements — not because of [talent]," Faris said.

Reitman, who is best known for directing the ever-popular Ghostbusters and its sequel, passed away in early 2022 and the age of 75. The filmmakers' representatives have yet to acknowledge Faris' claims and have not issued a statement at the time of writing.

Faris is a beloved comedian and actor who starred in cult classic comedy projects such as The House Bunny, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs and multiple Scary Movie films. Arguably her most successful role was in the sitcom Mom, wherein she played protagonist Christy, which ran for eight seasons.
