Roku Channel expands its Free Lineup with 11 New Channels

The Roku Channel is adding 11 new free channels to its group of free content today. This is all part of Roku’s own ad-support video-on-demand service, which has become pretty popular in recent months.

With this update, here’s the new channels that we are getting:

  • Ch 169 Today All Day
  • Ch 200 Sky News
  • Ch 281 Are We There Yet
  • Ch 283 ALLBLK Gems
  • Ch 398 Life with Derek
  • Ch 431 Sonic The Hedgehog
  • Ch 454 Hello Inspro
  • Ch 531 Dateline 24/7
  • Ch 548 Mysteria
  • Ch 770 Screambox TV
  • Ch 830 Anger Management Channel

Some of the highlights here include Dateline 24/7 which has NBC’s weekly news program on 24 hours a day. There’s also ALLBLK Gems which is a channel that brings you favorite movies and TV shows from ALLBLK. There’s also a channel dedicated to Sonic the Hedgehog. Among other shows like the Anger Management Channel, which has episodes of Charlie Sheen’s Anger Management show from 2012.

Over 70 million people use the Roku Channel

What started out as a small hub of free content that was ad-supported from Roku, has now turned into a pretty popular channel. Roku boasts that it has 70 million people using it. Having added 4.6 million new users in the last quarter of 2022. There was also 23.9 billion minutes streamed last quarter from the Roku Channel.

Roku isn’t just licensing other content from other studios. It is also getting five new kids series from pocket.watch for the Roku Channel. Which will be exclusive. That’s going to make the Roku Channel a great destination for families and kids.

Roku has also come to an agreement with Warner Bros Discovery to bring on some WBD FAST channels. Which includes channels dedicated to Westworld and The Nevers.

FAST, or free ad-support TV, is going to be the next big thing. Since a lot of people like to turn on the TV and have something on in the background, this is going to solve that problem. And using ads, they can make them free. Basically, recreating regular cable TV, but now all you need is an internet connection.
