Far Cry: Rise of the Revolution Reunites Giancarlo Esposito with Ubisoft

Ubisoft is expanding on the lore of Far Cry 6 with Far Cry: Rise of the Revolution, a new limited audio series which saw it reunite with Breaking Bad star Giancarlo Esposito. This unique example of content marketing arrives shortly after Far Cry 6 was treated to another free weekend encouraging anyone who hasn't already picked up the game to do so during Ubisoft's Valentine's Day festivities.

Released in late 2021, the latest installment in the Far Cry franchise went all out on production values, as evidenced by its developer's decision to hire Esposito, who gave another memorable villain performance as Anton Castillo, the main antagonist of the hit open-world FPS. The role earned him two game acting award nominations and even led to a sort of ambassador role for Far Cry 6, culminating with Esposito presenting at The Game Awards 2021.

Some 15 months later, the famous American actor has reunited with Ubisoft for Far Cry: Rise of the Revolution, a five-episode audio series penned by Mexican screenwriter Alexandro Aldrete which delves into Castillo's backstory and expands on the fictional Caribbean state of Yara, arguably one of the most memorable Far Cry settings in the history of the franchise. With a runtime of over four and a half hours, Rise of the Revolution manages to cover several decades' worth of dramatic events that molded Castillo into the memorable antagonist featured throughout Far Cry 6.

According to Ubisoft's media business development director, Julien Fabre, the drama was developed alongside Far Cry 6 as the series' first prequel story starring some of the original cast members. Speaking of which, Esposito is not the only actor who reprised his Far Cry 6 role for Rise of the Revolution. Jess Salgueiro also returned as guerilla leader Clara, while Anthony Gonzalez and Alex Fernandez once again voiced Castillo's son Diego and guerilla weaponsmith Juan Cortez, respectively. The fictional podcast series was produced by Audible and is now available exclusively through Amazon's service.

Far Cry: Rise of the Revolution is the third audio drama Ubisoft created in partnership with Audible, after Assassin's Creed Gold in 2019 and The Division: Hearts on Fire in 2021. In between those high-effort content marketing projects and this new fictional podcast based on Far Cry 6, the company also released a Splinter Cell radio show produced by BBC.

Far Cry 6 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
